Since I made my original post at the beginning of August, much has happened with my daughter Nikki. She has pretty much been in the hospital this time since July 13, 2008 only got out on August 14, 2008 so she could prepare for her wedding day on August 16th. We arrived home at about 9:30 pm on August 14th to return to the emergency room of our local hospital at 2:30 am August 15th. Nikki was in too much pain to remain at home. Fortunately, the doctor's at the local hospital coordinated with her doctor's at the University of Maryland Medical Center which allowed her to stay in the local hospital and have her pain managed until 3:00 pm on August 16th. At that time, they gave her medication and I took her to her wedding location to prepare to be married. The ceremony finally began around 5:45 p.m. and Nikki was a beautiful bride. No one ever would have thought that she would be able to walk down that isle. I have a seperate site set up for Nikki and I post her daily progress. It is http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nikkigeary, for anyone who may want to keep up. If not, just go look at the few wedding pictures I posted, she truly is a beautiful person.

Nikki has continued to deteriorate and lose weight while she has been in the hospital. She is extremely malnourished. The Oncologist yesterday informed us that she can only receive chemo if her nutrition and blood levels get improved greatly. I am not very optimistic. If they do any chemo, it will be clinical trials of an unknown variety at this time. The doctor's won't give us a prognosis in months or years so it is very frustrating. Has anyone dealt with doctors who don't believe in giving numbers? I understand that sometimes this makes patients give up hope but it is very hard to sit day after day and watch my daughter suffer with her pain and nausea.
